Farewell New 52 Animation! You Won't Be Missed?

It began, with a paradox…

Since the release of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox 2013, DC Animated has found itself in a new universe of storytelling. A new universe that has been met with, well…friction? Most people who grew up with the older DC Animated films (New Frontier, Wonder Woman, Under The Red Hood and Public Enemies to name a few) have been rather unhappy with the direction DC Animated movies took after Flashpoint Paradox. Flashpoint managed to bookend one of the greatest moments in comic book animation, as well as one of the worst moments in comic book animation.

Now, do I dislike the direction these movies took? Not on every level. There are definetly movies from the current animated universe that I enjoy. Justice League: Dark, Teen Titans: Judas Contract and Wonder Woman Bloodlines are the ones that stand out to me personally. The movies outside of the DCAMU (DC Animated Movie Universe) did remain decent for the most part. Assault On Arkham, Gods and Monsters and uh…yeah, no, those are really the only ones outside the DCAMU the majority of people consider enjoyable.

It is understandable why DC/Warner Bros would try something like an animated universe. It’s worked for their cartoons, it’s worked for their live action shows and the MCU is a juggernaut. But much like the DCEU, this felt halfcocked and under-developed.

I think the question on many people’s minds right now is “What’s next?” After Justice League Dark: Apokolips War wraps everything up in May, where will the animated movies go? My PERSONAL hope is that more effort will be placed into adapting stories or working to make the original ones stand on their own much more. As well as better quality control in terms of animation. The animation in these newer DC Animated films has ranged from great to wondering how it made it to distribution.

The quality of writing among singular writers has also varied wildly. A single writer can write one amazing movie, then their next be completely written off by fans. No one runs a perfect race everytime, but the differences are night and day sometimes. Which is what editors are for! It could also be a studio stepping in kind of issue. So there are many ways writing quality can be handled.

Now, how am I handling this news? I’m handling it like any other sane person would!

I’M GONNA MARATHON ALL THE MOVIES IN ORDER!

Wait…Is that not what a rational person would do?

Well, I’m trapped at home and haven’t got much else to do. So if you’re interested in my writeups of those, you can find them here! I’ll be updating that page with new entries as I go through the movies over the next couple weeks.
